Now that 2018 is in full swing, let's take a look at some of the new books about Cambodia that will be coming our way during the year ahead. Please note that the 'expected' release dates may change without notice. However, all books are available for pre-order from Amazon with a price guarantee. The list below is by no means complete as many more titles become available as the year progresses.

Title: Khmer-English/ English-Khmer (Cambodian) Practical Dictionary

Summary: Yet another Khmer/English English/Khmer dictionary, but that's okay! Dictionaries are a useful tool for students, both Khmer and foreign. Also useful for travellers, expatriates, and business people. The dictionary also includes a guide to the Khmer alphabet and pronunciation.

Title: Svay: A Khmer Village in Cambodia
Author: May Mayko Ebihara, Andrew C. Mertha, Judy Ledgerwood

Summary: A look at life in a Khmer village prior to the Khmer Rouge regime by noted American anthropologist May Mayko Ebihara. Ebihara's research looked at the societal structure at the village level including family, religion and local politics.

Title: Cambodia Marco Polo Pocket Guide

Summary: If you are going to buy a travel guide, then you should buy an up to date one with all the latest information. Marco Polo pocket guides come in a compact format and include 'Insider Tips'. Title: Cambodia and the West, 1500-2000

Summary: A great complementary book to other books on Cambodian history. This books looks at Cambodia's first contacts with European traders; French colonialism; post-WWII Cambodia and more recent historical events. The book is the work of numerous scholars which have been compiled and edited by T.O.Smith.

Title: Violence and the Civilising Process in Cambodia
Author: Roderic Broadhurst, Thierry Bouhours, Brigitte Bouhours

Summary: Originally published in November 2015, this is the first release in Paperback.
Using the 1939 book 'The Civilizing Process' by sociologist Norbert Elias as a benchmark, the authors analyse forms of violence from the mid-nineteenth century through to the present day to assess whether violence has decreased and whether this can be attributed to Elias' civilizing process.

Title: The Dead Eye and the Deep Blue Sea: The World of Slavery at Sea-A Graphic Memoir

Title: Victims, Atrocity and International Criminal Justice: Lessons from Cambodia

Summary: This book examines the role of victims as civil parties within the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia. However, it is arguable that the goals of political and legal elites continue to be given precedence, and the ability of courts to deliver ‘justice to victims’ remains contested.

Title: The Politics of Decentralisation in Cambodia

Summary: This book argues that decentralisation reform in Cambodia has failed to transform the existing power relations necessary to produce democracy, accountability and improved service delivery.
